Calm Counters Sensationalist News About Swine Flu

In recent days I've heard more than a fair share of news reporting Swine Flu in a way that doesn't do us any favors. You hear a reporter make a hit and run attack saying something frightening like, "Holy shit! This flu is about to go pandemic!"

During lunch I was watching FOX and the news report actually took on a calm tone. Kudos to FOX! They explained what the flu was. They mentioned that while a new strain of flu has potential for harm, that we need to keep in mind that normal flu - which no one gets their panties in a bunch about - kills lots of people every year.

What I'd like to see is a nice image for "pandemic" to counter the images of Swine Flu that are emerging everywhere! That would help give people a sense of perspective.

First 100 Days: America Still Not Muslim Nation

In the spirit of not letting those who made kooky statements slip away without facing the shame, we are proud to report to you that it's been 100 days since Obama became President of the United States, and all the paranoid conspiracy buzz that Obama was going to bend the U.S. into a Muslim nation hasn't had any signs of happening. But true citizens who love this country, be watchful, it might be a trick to catch us off our guard!

thez0rk Accused of Racism for Declaration to "Kill the Wiggut"

At a recent house party held by liberal arts grad students, thez0rk was assumed racist for his use of a word similar to the W-word, which is, of course, derived from the off limits N-word. While most of the party's action was centered on the living room where a copy of the documentary of Gray Gardens played, in the dining room one party-goer brought up rpg gaming. The conversation morphed into a discussion of the various forms of undead monsters featured in the Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manuals over the years. Buzzing off of no less than eight Killians, thez0rk brought up one of his phoenetically favorite monsters, the Wight. He sharply howled like a mad witch, "KILL! KILL THE WIGGUT" so that he was overheard by all those nearby. Oblivious to the details of thez0rk's conversation, some simply assumed the term "wiggut" was a racial slur, rather than a bastardization of "wight."

Wingnuts Condemn First Lady for Touching Queen

No I'm not talking about Michelle Obama's taste in music. TIME has an article discussing the diplomatic blunder of the First Lady briefly touching the Queen of England during a recent visit. For anyone not familiar with monarchal traditions, touching the Queen is no-no, even for other nations' leaders.

Ultra-conservatives have joined the chorus condemning Michelle Obama for this "inexcusable blunder of epic consequences," not so much because they care about an insignificant and minor gaffe that breaks the rule of indulging the Crown's snobbery. No, it's more that anything the President or his wife do is wrong, so why not make a huge deal about this too!
