Wingnut Parents: My Kid Ain't Listening to that Socialist Darkie

I'm hearing reports that President Obama will be giving a pep talk to students across the nation next Tuesday. He is expected to say what President Bush said in a similar message to students: each of you is responsible for your own education, so figure out what you want to do and work hard.

Well, some are fearful of this.

Steve Russell, a state rep from Oklahoma, couldn't resist the tyrant analogy: "As far as I am concerned, this is not civics education — it gives the appearance of creating a cult of personality. This is something you'd expect to see in North Korea or in Saddam Hussein's Iraq."

Florida GOP Chair Jim Greer got in on the action too. “As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama’s socialist ideology … I do not support using our children as tools to spread liberal propaganda. The address scheduled for September 8, 2009, does not allow for healthy debate on the President’s agenda, but rather obligates the youngest children in our public school system to agree with our President’s initiatives or be ostracized by their teachers and classmates…Now that school is back in session, President Obama has turned to American’s children to spread his liberal lies, indoctrinating American’s youngest children before they have a chance to decide for themselves.”

According to some schools, the phones are ringing off the hooks with concerned parents.

We heard from a parent of our own who was concerned about the sort of parents who'd hold their child from school on Tuesday. " They should keep track of those families that opt out their kids and put them on a registry. This way we all feel a bit safer knowing who they are and where they live!"

Here's a good link if you want to know more.
